This covers the Its the Same Stuff Chrome extension and the optional sync server at sync.itsthesamestuff.com. If you never sign in, the second half doesn't apply to you at all — sync is opt-in, and the extension is fully useful without it.
Reading product pages
The extension reads the price (and, where Amazon shows one, the per-unit price) off any Amazon product page you visit that matches a listing you've added to a pool. It does this whether or not you ever sign in. Under Chrome Web Store policy this counts as reading your browsing activity, even though — see the next section — none of it is sent anywhere. We're disclosing it here because the policy requires it, not because anything leaves your browser.
Without sync: nothing leaves your device
Your pools, target prices, price history, and alert state live in Chrome's local storage on your own device. We don't run any analytics, don't use any ad network, and don't have a server that the extension talks to in this mode. The only network requests the extension makes are the price checks themselves, sent straight from your browser to the Amazon page you're already tracking — never to us.
With sync: what the server sees
Signing in — with an emailed one-time code, never a password — turns on sync for pool setup across your devices. From that point, our self-hosted server stores:
- your email address
- an opaque per-device session token — not a password; there isn't one to leak
- the pools you've named, and the target price, compare-by mode, and listing details (ASIN, URL, title) in them
- a label for each signed-in device and when it last synced
It structurally cannot store the prices you've observed or which pages you've visited: there is no column for either anywhere in its database. That data is generated and kept locally on each device, sync or no sync, so there's nothing of that kind to accidentally transmit even if the code tried to. Standard connection metadata (IP address, timestamps) is processed transiently by our hosting and network infrastructure to deliver and secure the service, the same as any web request.
We don't sell any of this, share it with third parties, or use it for advertising. There's no third-party analytics on the sync server.
Signing out and deleting your data
Signing out of a device revokes that device's session token on the server and clears sync state locally; it doesn't touch your account's pools (your other signed-in devices keep working) or anything stored locally on that device. There isn't yet a self-service "delete my account" button — to have your email address and all associated pool data permanently deleted from the server, email support@itsthesamestuff.com and we'll remove it.
Children's privacy
This extension isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above before the change takes effect.
